Es ist also beinahe soweit unsere 1. wirklich große Reise zu dritt. Die letzten Monate haben wir uns auf Europa beschränkt und jetzt geht’s auch für uns das 1. Mal nach Asien. Wie Blogger und viele andere das mittlerweile so machen hab ich nicht nur Reiseführer (Reiseknowhow, Marco Polo und den Lonely Planet) gewälzt sondern mich auch in anderen Blogs und Seiten informiert was man in Malaysia so mit Baby machen kann (MaleisieKids, Erlebe Malaysia, Wheressharon, bohemiantravelers, familytravelscoop, suitcasesandstrollers). Hab auch eine Facebook Seite gefunden, die sehr hilfreich war. Habe auch definitiv noch nie so viele Bewertungen auf tripadvisor gelesen wie vor diesem Urlaub. Warum haben wir uns überhaupt dafür entschieden? Wir haben das “Glück” einen Freundeskreis zu haben der auf der Welt ziemlich verstreut ist. (Alternative wäre Kalifornien gewesen, da waren uns aber die Wege zu weit.) In Malaysia kann man in kleinerem Umkreis ziemlich viel machen. Unser worst case Szenario: wir sind 3 Wochen bei unseren Freunden und zwar in Melaka,  best case wir sind ca eine Woche da und sehen auch noch etwas vom Rest des Landes. Ohne unsere Freunde als Backup hätten wir uns wahrscheinlich auch nicht “getraut”. Allerdings seit ich selbst blogge und mich mit dem Thema beschäftige hab ich das Gefühl, die halbe Welt ist unterwegs mit Baby und Kindern, offensichtlich das normalste der Welt. Trotzdem gibt es natürlich jede Menge Leute, die uns für wahnsinnig halten, andere finden es richtig gut (Dankeschön dafür!). Um es so unkompliziert wie möglich zu machen haben wir von Frankfurt aus, mit Lufthansa einen Nacht- und Direktflug gebucht und Hotels möglichst mit Küche im Zimmer und einem etwas höheren Standard, als wir es vielleicht ohne Kind gemacht hätten, ausgesucht. Wir haben auch darauf geachtet, dass alle Hotels kostenlos stornierbar sind und eine Möglichkeit zum Abendessen bieten. Wir bevorzugen auch Hotels mit 2 Zimmern, dann kann man noch etwas Zweisamkeit genießen wenn unsere Kleine im Bett ist.
Obwohl sich der älteste Dschungel taman negara wirklich unfassbar toll anhört ist es mit Baby einfach Quatsch. Alles was mit Nationalparks, Wasserfällen oder wandern zu tun hat kam nur in die engere Auswahl, wenn es dort buggytaugliche Wege gibt oder Trails, die in bis zu 1h zu bewältigen und auch nicht super rutschig oder steil sind, damit unsere Kleine in der Trage mitkommen kann. Wir haben uns dagegen entschieden eine Kraxe mitzunehmen, einfach zuviel Gepäck. Ich habe ja das Glück die Waschmaschine meiner Freundin benutzen zu können, sonst hätte ich wahrscheinlich das 1. Mal in einem Urlaub den Wäscheservice eines Hotels in Anspruch genommen. Um das Gepäck zu minimieren reisen wir grundsätzlich mit Babyreisezelt und nach viel hin und her haben wir beschlossen die Babyschale für das Auto nicht mitzunehmen, sondern für die Zeit außerhalb von KL ein Auto von Hawk mit Babyschale zu mieten. Dadurch sind allerdings die in Malaysia üblichen Taxifahrten für uns keine Option.

It’s almost there, our first really big trip. The last few months we were only traveling in Europe, now we go to Asia for the first time. As bloggers, and many others nowadays do, you do not only read guides ((Reiseknowhow, Marco Polo, Lonely Planet) to prepare yourself but you also get informed by searching for other blogs and websites, the following ones were really helpful (MaleisieKids, Erlebe Malaysia, Wheressharon, bohemiantravelers, familytravelscoop, suitcasesandstrollers). and also a Facebook page. Additionally, I definitely have never seen so many reviews on tripadvisor as prior to this holiday. Why did we decide to go to Malaysia? We are the ‘lucky’ ones who have friends all over the world (alternative would be California, but the distances there are too far). In Malaysia, you can expolre quite a bit on a smaller radius. Our worst case scenario: we are 3 weeks at our friends house in Malaka, best case we are there for a week and see a bit from the rest of the country. Without our friends as a backup we probably would not “dare” to go. However, since I started blogging myself and dealing with the subject, I have the feeling that half of the world is traveling with baby and children, obviously the most normal thing in the world. Of course there were a lot of people who think we are crazy, others find it really good (thank you for that!). To make it as simple as possible we have booked from a night and direct flight from Frankfurt with Lufthansa. We picked hotels, if possible with a kitchen in the room and a slightly higher standard than we might have done without a child. We have also made sure that all the hotels can be cancelled without additional costs. We also prefer hotels which serve dinner and provide 2 rooms, then you can still enjoy some time together in the evening when little one is already in bed.
Although attractions such as taman negara jungle, one of the oldest ones, sounds really great to visit, it is literally nonsense to do if you travel with a baby. Everything that has to do with national parks, waterfalls, or hiking was only shortlisted if it is buggy-friendly or if trails are available which are short, not super slippery or steep, so our little one could be carried in the carrier. I’ m in the lucky position to be able to use the washing machine of my friend, otherwise I probably would have used laundry service in the hotel for the first time of my life. To minimize the baggage we always travel with a baby travel tent. After a lot of discussion, we decided to leave the car seat for the baby at home, but to rent a car from Hawk with a baby seat for the time outside KL. However, this means the usual Malaysian taxi rides are not an option for us.
