Ein Wochenende zu zweit in Luxembourg / Just the two of us in Luxembourg

All you can eat hat hier 25€ gekostet.

A new and old experience a weekend just the two of us in Luxembourg. Our little one was entertained by the grandparents at home. Although we had already let her with the grandparents for a couple of hours before however, never an entire weekend. Beforehand I was torn between the “joy of a little time together” and “bad conscience, because I see her anyway only in the evenings and weekends.” I struggled through but, we didn’t want to forget ourselves as a couple ….
Luxembourg is  only a 2hr car ride from Cologne, not too far away if something would happen, and it is also worth for a day or weekend trip.
We stayed at the Double Tree Hilton, we received a voucher from weekendjeweg a long time ago from friends and have now finally the chance to use it. Located just outside of the city and at first glance not very inviting from the outside, but very nice inside. You also get a warm delicious cookie upon arrival.

Tip: At the hotel you can park for free.

Tip: You can the hotel shuttle to downtown for free (assuming you book in time) or take the bus, which sets off a few 100m from the entrance. On Saturdays the bus in Luxembourg is free at all! On other days you pay € 2 and can drive up to 2h, no matter how far!

During my travel preparations I quite often read how insanely expensive Luxembourg is, however, I can not confirm. Even if we were without our child I automatically check on child-friendliness. The hotel has a children’s check-in. The pool is only between 1-1.2m deep. In the breakfast area there is an extra children’s corner and highchairs of course are also available. The breakfast itself was fine but nothing exceptional.
The first day we enjoyed a few laps in the pool and walked in about 20 minutes to a running Sushi Restaurant.

Tip: As long as the little ones can not move to much going out for sushi is ideal, you can eat with one hand and hold the child if necessary in the other arm.

Currently we could not visit a running sushi restaurant with our kid, in 2 years again therefore, perfect for an evening for two.
It was delicious, especially the sushi rolls which were wrapped in rice paper with slightly lemony flavor, amazing. All you can eat here cost € 25. On the way back, we noticed how hilly Luxembourg is especially as it has started to rain, but it was at least warm. Both on this walk and otherwise we passed quite a few and beautiful playgrounds. In addition, we have rarely seen so many chic homes and expensive cars and this city is extremely clean, nowhere garbage.

Tip: We left the bus in the city at “Badeanstalt”.

In the city itself it already feels like France (only that people are willing to speak English) small sidewalk cafes, partly exclusive shops and beautiful buildings. we stopped at the Place de Constitution with a beautiful view. Here we wanted to see the Petrusse casemates, but they were temporarily closed, well sth left for the next visit. At the Place Guillaume II there was just the weekly market, we would have loved to buy a lot of plants. Here we were shortly in the Tourist Info and got us a map, but actually it is not necessary the city is not so big and everything is well signposted. On to the 2nd, the Bock casemates (4 € entrance) a kind of castle in a rock. Exceptional view. The casemates are suitable only with children, if they can run well, as you have here a lot of very steep and narrow spiral staircases, where I would have a child on the arm or in the carrying case. Then we walked down to the lower town, also a lot of walking but worth. If you like bridges, towers and old buildings, here is the right spot. As a reward we have stocked us up in the Cafe Oberpeis with cake, so many great cakes, difficult choice. The Ducal Palace is located in the middle of the city, except a sentry no one else to see. As a small snack and thanks to the rain no French cuisine but mega tasty quesadillas at Mamacita.
It happened to be the Luxembourg Marathon probably the reason why the Restaurant where we have made a reservation for the evening was closed! In the first moment I was quite upset especially because I have read you hardly get a table Saturday nights without a reservation. But we were lucky two blocks further we found the IVI and I could have not asked for a better restaurant for our evening. With super delicious cocktails, especially the Paralyser 2.0 sensationally, a greeting from the kitchen, our main courses and desserts were just fantastisch. The pictures speak for themselves I guess.

Finally, we were on the Kirchberg Plateau, as we have walked a lot on the day before we decided to drive there, well, we tried it, ultimately we parked at the Rue des Trois-England and walked through the woods to Fort Thüngen, to the Musée Draï Eechelen and the modern Museum. A great contrast between old and new and a great view of the city again.
