Der Countdown läuft für unseren ersten Last Minute Urlaub!

Die Vorbereitung

Auch wenn man jede Information mittlerweile im Internet findet bin ich ein Fan von Reiseführern. Also noch schnell ein paar zur Ansicht in den Buchladen  bestellt, da kann ich dann in Ruhe aussuchen welche(r) es sein soll(en). (Unfassbar, ich hab tatsächlich vergessen, sie abzuholen, peinlich und am Flughafen gab es sich nichts gutes, netterweise durfte ich in den von unseren Hotelnachbarn einen Blick werfen).

Dank jeder Menge Übung und der Packliste vom letzten Mal, schaff ich es alles in unsere extra gebuchten und bezahlten 25kg und das Handgepäck zu packen. Im Nachhinein hätten 20kg auch locker gereicht. Zwei kleine Koffer, ein kleiner und ein großer Rucksack.

Tipp: Auch wenn unsere Kleine noch nichts zahlen muss, ist ein zusätzliches Handgepäck bis 10kg frei zumindest bei unserer Fluggesellschaft.

Wir warten noch auf Antwort vom Hotel ob wir auch wirklich ein Babybett bekommen sonst muss das Zelt mit. Kein großes Problem, nur dann brauchen wir einen großen Koffer statt dem praktischeren Rucksack. – Die Antwort: Ja, aber keine Garantie, wir lassen das Zelt trotzdem zu Hause, notfalls schläft sie bei uns.

Die Nacht vor dem Flug

Durch unsere Last Minute Entscheidung, hatten wir keine große Auswahl für die Flugzeiten. Wir hatten noch Glück, der Rückflug ist ein Nachflug. Der Hinflug startet allerdings mittags. Damit der Tag der Hinreise durch die Fahrt zum Flughafen nicht noch anstrengender wird, verbringen wir die Nacht davor im Holiday Inn am Flughafen. 

Tipp: Die Hotel Gruppe Holiday Inn hat ein tolles Punktesystem mit dem man sich jede Menge Geld sparen kann.

Nach dem Abendessen geht’s los, so schläft unsere Kleine im Auto ein und im Babybett des Hotels einfach weiter.

Die Zeit am Flughafen und unser Flug

Nach einer entspannten Nacht und Frühstück parken wir unser Auto am Flughafen etwas außerhalb und nehmen den Shuttle, so bleibt es bezahlbar. Eigentlich wollten wir uns die Zeit auf dem Flughafenspielplatz vertreiben, aber obwohl wir extrem rechtzeitig da waren, blieb keine Zeit. Die Wege auf einem so großen Flughafen sind nicht zu unterschätzen. Außerdem war Flugzeuge beobachten sowieso viel spannender. Unseren Buggy durften wir bis zum Einsteigen behalten.

Wir hatten enormes Glück und eine dreier Reihe für uns. Dadurch hatte unsere Kleine natürlich genügend Platz zum spielen und schlafen. Ich hatte ein paar Bücher und ihre Puppe dabei und wir haben zum ersten Mal ein paar Kinderapps und ‘Nijnte’ Episoden runtergeladen. Aber eigentlich war sie hauptsächlich mit der neuen Umgebung beschäftigt. Im Vergleich zum letzten Langstreckenflug war es hier Mau mit Kinderextras,  kein Spielzeug, kein Fruchtgläschen oder Windeln.

Tipp: Wenn ihr mit einem typischen Ferienflieger unterwegs seid, bezahlt ihr zum Teil für Essen, Getränke und Filme extra.

Ungünstigerweise gab es einen Zwischenstopp in St. Marten, der durch irgendwelche technischen Probleme eine gefühlte Ewigkeit gedauert hat. Endlich nach 12h, wovon unsere Kleine 4h geschlafen und insgesamt vielleicht eine halbe Stunde gequengelt hat, waren wir da. Trotz allem eine passable Reise.

Tipp: Am Flughafen kann man Geld wechseln, allerdings für 6$ Gebühr, wir haben keins gewechselt…

Jetzt nur noch schnell mit dem Bus ins Hotel und ins Bett.

Clock is ticking for our first last minute vacation!

The preparation

Even if you find any information on the internet, I am a fan of travel guides. So I went to the bookstore and ordered some. (Incredible, but I actually forgot to pick them up, and at the airport there was nothing what I liked. However, I was allowed to take a look in the one of our hotel neighbors).
Thanks to a lot of practice and the packing list of the last time, I was able to squeeze everything in our hand luggage and in our extra booked and paid 25kg. In retrospect, 20kg would have been far enough. Two small suitcases, one small and one large backpack.
Tip: Even if our little one does not have to pay anything, an additional hand luggage up to 10kg is free. At least at our airline.
We are still waiting for response from the hotel if there will be a cod available otherwise the tent needs to come. No big problem, only then we need a large suitcase instead of the more practical backpack. – The answer: Yes, but no guarantee, we leave the tent at home anyway, if necessary she sleeps with us.

The night before the flight

With a last minute holiday, we did not have a great selection for the flight times. We were lucky, the return flight is a night flight. The outward flight starts at noon. To make the journey not more stressful as it anyway will be, we spend the night before in the Holiday Inn at the airport.
Tip: The hotel group Holiday Inn has a great rewarding system where you can save a lot of money.
After dinner we left, so our little one falls asleep in the car and continues sleeping in the baby bed.

The time at the airport and our flight

After a relaxing night and breakfast we parked our car at the airport just outside and took the shuttle, so it remains affordable. Actually, we wanted to spend some time at the airport playground, but although we were there very early, there was no time. On such a large airport the distances should not be underestimated. In addition, watching aircrafts was much more fun anyway. We were allowed to keep our buggy until boarding.
We had tremendous luck and had three seats. Thus, our little one had enough space to play and sleep. I took a couple of books and her doll, and for the first time we’ve downloaded a couple of apps and ‘Nijnte’ episodes. But she was mainly busy to explore the new environment. Compared to the previous last long-distance flight the kids service was not too great, no toys, no baby food or diapers.
Tip: If you are traveling with a typical holiday airline, you may pay for food, drinks and movies extra.
Unfortunately we had an intermediate stop in St. Marten, which has lasted through technical problems for ever. Finally, after 12 hours, of which our little one slept 4 hours and was cranky maybe half an hour, we were finally there. Despite everything a passable trip.
Tip: At the airport you can change money, but for $ 6 fee, we decided not to …
Now, as fast as possible into the bus to the hotel and go to bed.
