Wir hatten etwas Mühe in Kuala Selangor ein Hotel zu finden, dass bei TA wenigstens einigermaßen gut bewertet war. Wir haben uns letztendlich für das APPS Hotel entschieden. Das APPS Hotel liegt in einem offensichtlich recht neuen Gebiet (unser Navi kannte es auf jeden Fall nicht, direkt gegenüber ist ein Giant). Das Zimmer war zwar klein und es roch nach Rauch, aber sonst war es ok, zumindest für eine Nacht und den Preis. Was bei den Temperaturen nicht sehr stört, aber es gab nur kaltes Wasser in der Dusche. Meneer konnte leider durch die Karaokebar gegenüber erst recht spät schlafen. Die Kleine und ich haben nix mitbekommen und tief und fest gepennt. Auch hier hatten wir Kühlschrank und Wasserkocher zur Verfügung und es gab wieder 2 Wasserflaschen. Da wir nicht groß rumsuchen wollten und auch eine Pause vom asiatischen Essen ganz ok war, waren wir beim Flussläufig entfernten Dominos Pizza essen. Gleich hinter dem Hotel gabs die Möglichkeit eine Fireflytour zu machen um 19.30 sollte es losgehen, für 30RM/Person. Eigentlich stand das gar nicht auf dem Programm, weil ich dachte es wäre für unsere Kleine zu spät, aber dadurch, dass es direkt hinter dem Hotel war gings. Durch die Flussnähe gab es das erste mal ziemlich viele Moskitos. Wir hatten uns zwar bisher sowieso jeden Tag eingesprüht (Fazit bisher: 2 Stiche), aber hier war es auf jeden Fall nötig. Während wir am Steg gewartet haben, haben wir einen water monitor, eine Art Varan gesehen. Letztendlich ging es dann um kurz vor 20 Uhr los. Mit uns war nur noch ein Paar dabei. Mit Schwimmwesten ging es mit dem Boot in Richtung Glühwürmchenkolonie. Es sah wirklich sehr schön aus, wie lauter kleine blitzende Sterne. Allerdings fand ich den Preis für den Ausflug etwas zu hoch. Die Speedbootmässige Fahrt zurück war eigentlich das Highlight. Unsere Kleine hat fast die ganze Zeit geschlafen. Frühstück gab es im Hotel auch, a la Carte, uns wurde das Continental empfohlen, war englisches Frühstück, ich hab wie immer bisher den Orangensaft ohne Eis bestellt, wie immer kam ein unglaubliches nachfragen, nur leider gab es hier dann zum ersten Mal einen warmen Saft oder zumindest etwas in der Art.

Tipp: Wenn man zwecks Durchfall Gefahr kein Eis möchte sollte man “chilled” bestellen.

Der Grund warum wir in Kuala Selangor Station gemacht haben, war der Bukit Melawati und der Tanam Alam: laut Reiseführer kann man den Bukit in 1h hochlaufen, wir haben das Auto unterhalb des Leuchtturms abgestellt und sind nur das letzte Stück gelaufen. Begleitet von jeder Menge Affen, besonders für die Kleine ein Riesen Spaß. Kuala Selangor war immerhin mal 1 Jahr von den Holländern besetzt, natürlich besonders interessant für meneer. Man sieht allerdings nur noch Mauerreste und jede Menge Kanonen aber man hat hier oben einen fantastischen Blick. Neben dem Leuchtturm gibt es ein kleines Museum wo man noch mehr über die Geschichte von Kuala Selangor erfährt. Der Eintritt ist frei und die Erklärungen sind auch auf Englisch. Für uns war es auf jeden Fall interessant. Direkt am Fuß des Bukit Melawati liegt Tanam Alam. Ein Park/Jungle, man kann hier verschieden lange Touren machen. Wir haben uns für die kürzeste entschieden, zum See und dann durch die Mangroven, hat ne knappe Stunde gedauert. Der Park ist ein Vogelparadies und wir haben auch etliche gesehen, sogar einen Adler, sonst sind uns neben Affen noch Schlammfische und Krabben begegnet. Wie meistens sind unter der Woche nicht viele andere Leute unterwegs, wir haben genau noch ein anderes Paar gesehen. Ungefähr  3/4 des Weges liegt im Schatten wir hatten unsere Kleine mal wieder in der Trage mit dabei. Auf einem Holzsteg durch die Mangroven zu laufen fand ich super, bei uns war gerade Ebbe, bei Flut ist es aber sicher noch beeindruckender. Eines fällt in Malaysia leider immer wieder auf, abgesehen von den größten Touristenattraktionen werden die Sachen leider nicht besonders gut in Stand gehalten – trotzdem ein toller Ausflug.

We had some trouble to find a hotel in Kuala Selangor which was at least reasonably reviewed at TA. We finally decided for the APPS hotel. The hotel is located in an obviously fairly new area (our GPS did not find it directly opposite is a Giant). The room was small and it smelled like smoke, but otherwise it was ok, at least for one night and the cheap price. Not a big deal at 34 degrees, there was only cold water in the shower. Unfortunately meneer could not sleep very well as a karaoke bar was next door. The little one and I have not noticed anything  and slept both deeply. Again, there was a fridge and kettle available and 2 bottles of water. For dinner we did not want to search long and a break from Asian food was ok, thus, we ate at Dominos Pizza in walking distance. Directly behind the hotel there was the possibility to do a fireflytour. At 7.30pm it should begin (30RM / person). Actually the fireflies were not on the program, as I thought it would be too late for our little one, but the fact that it was just behind the hotel we gave it a try. The disadvantage to be next to the river – mosquitoes. We use insect repellent anyway every day (Sofar: 2 stitches), but here it was definitely needed. While we were waiting at the dock, we saw a water monitor, a sort of Varan. Ultimately, the tour started at 8pm, wearing lifejackets we took the boat towards the firefly colony. It really looked very nice, 100s of little twinkling stars. However, the costs are a bit too much. The ride back in the speedboat I liked almost the most. Our little one slept almost the whole tour. There was also breakfast offered at the, a la carte, they recommended the Continental one, it was English breakfast. As always I ordered orange juice without ice, the first time I got a warm juice or at least something like that.

Tip: If you want to avoid diarrhea order “chilled” instead of ice.

The reason why we stop in Kuala Selangor, was Bukit Melawati and Tanam Alam: according to our travel guide you can walk up within an hour, we parked the car just below the lighthouse and walked the rest. Accompanied by a bunch of monkeys, especially for our little one a lot of fun. As Kuala Selangor was occupied  in the past 1 year by the Dutch, this place is of course of particular interest for meneer. However, there are only remains of walls and a lot of cannons and additionally you have a fantastic view up here. Next to the lighthouse there is a small museum where you can learn more about the history of Kuala Selangor. Admission is free and the explanations are in English. For us it was definitely interesting. Directly at the bottom of Bukit Melawati is Tanam Alam. A park / jungle, you can choose between differnt routes. We opted for the shortest, to the lake and then through the mangroves, about an hour.The park is a paradise for birds and we have also seen some, even an eagle, besides monkeys we met mudfish and crabs. As most times during the week not many other people are there. About 3/4 of the route is in the shade, we had our little girl again in the carrier. Walking on a boardwalk through the mangroves I loved, with us it was low tide, at high tide it is probably even more impressive. One thing you encounter in Malaysia quite often, apart from the main tourist attractions, things are not particularly kept in good condition – but still a great trip.
