Der weiße Strand und das türkise Meer gehört zu Curacao genau wie die bunten Häuser von Willemstadt oder der blaue Likör.

Mambo Beach auf Curacao

Da unser Hotel einen kostenlosen Shuttle zum Mambo Beach angeboten hat und man ihn auch gut zu Fuss erreichen konnte, war der Mambo Beach sozusagen unser Hausstrand während unseres Urlaubs. Normalerweise muss man hier für Liegen zahlen, als Gäste des Hotels sind die Liegen inklusive. Schattemplätze gibt es genug, vorausgesetzt man ist früh genug da. Voll wird es nur am Wochenende und wenn ein Kreuzfahrtschiff anlegt. Im ersten Moment war ich ein bisschen geschockt, die Liegen stehen dicht an dicht, aber der weise Sand und das warme blaue Meer entschädigt einen schon sehr. Unser erstes Mal in der Karibik, wir waren jetzt schon beeindruckt.

Tipp: Wer ein bisschen Platz für Buggy oder zum Sand buddeln möchte, am besten einen der Plätze am Rand sichern.

Das Wasser geht ziemlich flach rein, ideal zum Spielen und planschen. Leguane, Pelikane und tropsche Vögel teilen sich den Strand mit den Sonnenanbetern.

Schnorcheln am Mambo Beach

Auf Curacao findet man sicher noch jede Menge bessere Orte zum Schnorcheln, aber für mich als noch nicht so schnorchelerfahrenen Menschen war es wieder sehr beeindruckend so viele verschiedene Fische zu sehen.

Tipp: Extrem gut eincremen, die Sonne ist sehr stark auch an einem bewölkten Tag und After Sun nicht vergessen.

Was gibt’s sonst noch?

Sowohl am Strand, als auch am Boulevard gibt es einige kleine Spielplätze. Auf dem Boulvard selbst, gibt es jede Menge zu essen und Gelegenheit zum Shoppen, für die, die es mögen. Am Ende des Strandes liegt das Aquarium und die Dolphin Academy, wo man auch von draußen schon die Seelöwen beobachten kann.

Tipp: Die Toiletten sind hier wirklich sauber.

Klar, ein bisschen Wehmut ist dabei 😉 so einen Strand hätte man früher ohne Kind ganz anders genutzt, Cocktails geschlürft und die ein oder andere Beach Party am Abend mitgenommen. Aber wir haben uns hier auch als Familie prima erholt und ein bisschen Musik im Hintergrund hat uns gar nicht gestört.

Mambo Beach on Curacao

As our hotel offered a free shuttle to Mambo Beach, walking is also possible, Mambo Beach was so to speak our house beach during our vacation. Normally you have to pay for beach chairs, as guests of the hotel the beach chairs are included. There is enough shadow as you arrive early enough. At the weekends and when a cruise ship arrives it gets busy. At the first moment I was a bit shocked, so many beach chairs, but the white sand and the warm blue sea compensates a lot. Our first time in the Caribbean, we were already impressed.
Tip: If you want to have space to play or for the buggy, you should get a spot at the edge.
The water is quite shallow, ideal for playing and splashing. Iguanas, pelicans and tropical birds share the beach with the sun worshipers.

Snorkeling at Mambo Beach

On Curacao you probably find plenty of better places to snorkel, but for me as snorkel beginner it was very impressive to see so many different fish.
Tip: Use a lot of sun cream, the sun is very strong even on a cloudy day and don’t forget to bring after sun.

What else to do at Mambo Beach?

On the beach, as well as on the boulevard there are some small playgrounds. On the Boulevard itself, there is plenty to eat and opportunity to shop, for those who like it. At the end of the beach there is the aquarium and the Dolphin Academy, already from outside you get the chance to see some sea lions.
Tip: The toilets are really clean here.
Sure, a bit of nostalgia is there 😉 before being parents you would have enjoyed some cocktails or attend a beach party in the evening. But we had a great time as a family and a bit of music in the background we like it anyway.
