Rodeln in Schmallenberg

For someone, who lived in the Alps, it is always surprising that you find in the middle of Germany quite a lot of snow and a few hills where you can go skiing and sledging.

Sledging in the Hunau ski area

The ride through the snowy hilly landscape and the cute villages with their pretty half-timbered houses is worthwhile anyways. In the Sauerland area they are used to snow, thus, the main roads are well cleared. After some kilometers of untouched nature. Felt somewhere in nowhere, where we have already wondered whether we are right at all, suddenly a lot of cars appeared, already several hundred meters in front of the ski resort on the edge of the street. We were obviously not the only ones with the idea to go sledding. However, the parking is for free and despite a lot of other visitors, there were still sleighs for rent. For 5 € per sledge and day, the price was absolutely okay. You can go up the hill with a magic carpet.
Tip: Ideal for  beginners, you don`t have to deal with the drag lift.

Since the sledge mountain is not really high, you can walk easily and  save the money for the lift.

Tip: If you still want do use the lift, the ticket can be shared by several people. However, you do have to wait 2-3 minutes between two rides. the description you will find in German and Dutch.

Tip: If you are traveling with a baby, there are changing facilities.

For skiing or a few hours sledging, Schmallenberg is not too bad. With ski resorts in Austria you can not compare it, of course.
