Unsere Unterkunft in Curacao: Acoya Hotel

Bon Bini! Willkommen in Curacao!

We decided for our hotel at very short notice. Nevertheless, we did not make a bad choice with the Acoya hotel°.

Bon Bini! Welcome to Curacao!

When we arrived there were two bottles of water for us, very convenient as we arrived late at night.
Tip: Unlike in other holiday destination, you can drink tap water and you don’t have to do it without ice cubes at this temperature.
Our ‘house’ was huge, nicely decorated and there was everything you need. Even if they could not guarantee the cot, it was already in the room when we arrived. The houses are grouped around a pond where you could watch birds, fish and water turtles, a cat sneaked around our terrace in the morning.
We had quite prominent ‘neighbors’ as the national soccer team of Curacao was in the hotel as well.

The pool

The pool was big enough for me to pull trains and areas with a maximum depth of 30cm to plunge. While you enjoy the day beds the little ones can play with the little stones, that’s how you can relax as a family.

Playground for children and adults (= the spa)

The so-called Fun Zone to play and run for the small hotel guests is covered  with a roof thus, protected from rain and sun. In addition to a normal playground with swing and slide there is even a trampoline, a bouncy castle and rocking animals or you can play basketball. The floor is extra soft, so nothing can happen. Friday to Sunday the play area is professionally supervised.

In order to get everyone in holiday mood, a half-hour back massage at Hotel Acoya is included. Wonderful! This should be included in every hotel, at least for the moms.
Tip: Here in the hotel and also generally on the island compared to Europe everything goes very slow, no stress. Fortunately you are on vacation and have all the time in the world.

The shuttle and our attempt to get money

Since we did not exchange money at the airport, the first thing we had to do was to get some money.
The hotel offers 1-2 times per day a free shuttle to the beach 9am and 2pm (you can also walk), to the supermarket 10am and 4pm and to the city center of Willemstad at 9am. According to the receptionist you can not pin in the supermarket and there is also no cash machine, she has to know it … (later we realized – misinformation).
Tip: Just down the road there is a cash machine, here it is called ATM.
So first we need to take the bus to Willemstad. The first cash machine did not spit any money, well maybe broken, next cash machine, also no money for us, also not with another card, slowly we became a bit nervous. In the bank, we were told it happens often, one would have to call the bank, hm great, thanks to time difference, today nothing will happen anymore. Fortunately, we still had Euros, which we could change, at least we can afford some lunch today. By chance, we tried a third cash machine with a third card and surprise surprise it worked, puh!
Now we are ready for our holiday.
