Segelboote, Yachten dazu strahlend blauer Himmel, was will man mehr.
Due to family and friends we visit the Netherlands quite offen, but somehow I got especially enthusiastic this weekend when we were in Willemstad- Stop Willemstad? Wasn’t Willemstad somewhere in the Caribbean? Yeah just a few months ago we were in Willemstad on Curacao. But today it is about the little name-sister in the Netherlands.
Usually, I do not post too many pictures in my articles, but this time I was so happy about what I saw that I could not stop taking photos.
This was partly due to the fact that I love boats and water. Both, you can find a lot in Willemstad. Sailing boats, yachts, together with a bright blue sky, what is there more to ask for. Should I ever have money, my own boat is at the top of the wish list!
We took a beautiful walk around the former fortress Willemstad. Under our feet 1000s of shells. Children entertainment guaranteed, who will find the most beautiful shell?
Passing the pretty houses and bridges of Willemstad. Here walking with children will certainly not get boring.
Small explorers can look forward to the remains of bunkers or sitting on a cannon in front of the Mauritshuis. Who happens to take a horse carriage, can also park here 😉 Or you can take a ball for the soccer field, conquer the playground, but you can also do the trim path. The attentive little observer might even spot a crocodile in the water.
We would not be in Holland if we had not passed a windmill. Those who are able to read in Dutch can also find some information on the history of the fortress.
At the end of our tour, another highlight, coincidentally a Boho market took place in the inner city. With life music, street food and pony ride, perfect. But even without a market the center of Willemstad invites one to stroll or eat in on e of the plenty cafes and restaurants. While watching the Harbour site, ice cream or fresh mussels taste particularly god!
Willemstad is surrounded by water, you should be able to find a spot to swim, right?
5-10min by car you’ll find a grass beach. If it is too cool for swimming you can try the beach club the Banaan. Enjoy the view and have a delicious apple cake, while the little ones get some drawing material or play with the wooden railway inside. High chairs and changing facilities are available.
The little Dutch cities I like anyway, but in Willemstad I fell in love again.
Liefs, Janna
