Zoo in Rostock

The zoo in Rostock, is supposed to be one of the most beautiful ones in Europe. We have visited many zoos in Europe and the zoo in Rostock is definitely worth visiting. The zoo is actually more like a long walk through the forest, park and botanical garden plus watching animals. Parking is fairly priced and just a little walk away from the zoo.

Tip: Because many routes are in the forest definitely take a jacket.

What we really liked, the enclosures are partly not even fenced but only separated by trenches, thus, you can survey the animals super close. Especially nice, different animals share here an enclosure, dromedaries peacefully live with zebras. In addition to the zoo in Rostock the Darwineum also belongs to the zoo, an exhibition on the history of evolution, very nicely done and informative. Our little one was super fond of the aquarium, as expected but also of the tortoises. The banana-eating gorillas were also very interesting for our little one. The monkey house is generally a highlight and the monkeys have reasonably much space. The petting zoo was only convincing for our little one when she was securely on meeners arm anyway she was brave enough to touch the little goats. In the zoo there are plenty of cafes, toilets and baby changing facilities. Who needs a playground break can find the Noah’s Ark Playground, a Viking ship or a water playground.

Tip: If the little feet do not want to walk anymore, you can borrow a wagon.

Tip: For those who live nearby the annual pass is worthwhile.

Afterwards we went to the inner city of Rostock for a little walk.
